We like to say that Web3 is a trillion-dollar industry with little to no competition.
But even if there aren’t that many people in Web3, it's necessary to meet them and build a network.
So how do you do this?
Well, a while ago, we had a chance to meet Romain.
For his most recent Defi endeavor, he managed to raise over 7 million dollars in TPL in less than 5 weeks.
No VCs.
Just personal network.
Here are a couple pieces of advice on how to grow your network.
1- Physical Networking
There are a lot of meetups/conferences in Web3.
It’s very powerful to go there, to meet with people, to shake hands, to have a conversation.
Saying GM on Twitter with your NFT PFP is not going to get the same result as meeting people in person and staying in touch with them.
2 - Digital Outreach
In DeFi, you don't necessarily need an introduction to get in touch with people.
You can send DM’s, you can ask questions during AMA’s, you can send texts on Telegram or on Discord.
Web3 is a quite friendly place where you can just reach out to people.
So just do it.
3 - Listen, Don't Talk
It's important to listen instead of talking.
You want to meet people and learn from them.
You want to learn about protocols, people and projects.
You want to ask questions.
You want to receive more information than you give.
4 - Be A Connector
You want to bring people together.
You're going to talk with people in different industries, in different niches,
And you’re going to want to put people in touch with each other.
When you’re talking with a lot of people, you can be like:
“hey maybe these two people have something in common.”
“maybe this protocol could help this NFT collection.”
Then you can ask for permission and you organize an introduction.
Those are four ways to build your personal and professional network in Web3.
If you are a connector, people will connect you to other interesting people in return.
Be a connector.
This is how Romain managed to raise 7M+ just from his personal network, without relying on VCs.
The sooner you start, the better.
Have fun.
